In large-scale, organizational systems change, initiatives can go one of two ways: success or failure. As change practitioners, we can often feel that we are fighting an uphill battle against a system that is determined to sabotage change to fail, instead of contributing to success. This interactive session will provide an example of a large change implementation and why an effectively defined change framework is not always enough to control the chaos. We will review a healthcare client’s change lifecycle in transitioning to an electronic health record (EHR) system intended to improve clinical operations and enhance patient care/satisfaction. We will explore challenges the change team faced and discuss ways in which you can overcome similar challenges in a change-averse organization. Working together in groups, we will “assess and rewrite history.
